House of Flame and Shadow Bonus Chapters summary

Bryce and Danika Bonus chapter ( Independent Bookstores)

This bonus chapter recounts how Bryce ended up with her horn tattoo on her back.

Essentially, Danika kind of pushed Bryce into going to a party on a workday for a few drinks.

Ensuring that Bryce was thoroughly drunk, Danika then convinced her to get matching tattoos.

Upon arriving at the tattoo shop, Danika approached the owner, asking them to mix a powder with the tint for the tattoo. She informed Bryce that the powder was some special werewolf concoction.

My Opinion:

Rating: 7/10

Danika was my favorite character in the whole series, and I loved that we get to read more about her and what she was thinking at that moment. But aside from that, we don’t get any significant new information. The chapter is sweet and just behind the scenes.

Azriel, Nesta and Bryce Bonus Chapter ( Walmart )

Bryce is with her captors ( Nesta and Azriel ) They’re resting after walking through the caves. ( this bonus scene occurs during the first chapters of House of Flame and Shadow when Bryce is trapped in Prythian )

Bryce starts asking questions about this world, the Fae, and technology.

Nesta and Azriel ask about Midgard in return. They inquire about her phone, and Bryce puts on some music.

Azriel seems to be a “club rat,” enjoying electronic tunes. Nesta loves classical music and tells Bryce that she used to dance.

They talk about the firs light and the consequences of running out of reserves (in Midgard, they don’t know electricity, and the first light powers everything).

Bryce and Nesta discover that they have a lot in common.

My Opinion

Rating: 10/10

Quite the emotional bonus chapter. Loved how Bryce bonded with Nesta. This chapter raises questions that I’m sure will be further addressed in future Crescent City books about the role of the Asteri and the firstlight.

Ember and Randall ( Bryce parents ) Bonus Chapter ( BAM and Indigo )

Ember and Randall were sent to Prythian by Bryce in exchange for the mask (and to keep them safe and away from the Asteri).

This bonus chapter occurs at the same time as the final battle in Midgard.

Ember and Randall take the same pill Bryce took to understand the Prythian language. They’re very scared and wary at the beginning, but Ember and Nesta seem to get along well.

They discuss Nesta’s “punishment” for surrendering the Mask and how Feyre intervened in Nesta’s favor against Rhysand.

My Opinion

Rating 9/10

We learn a lot about Nesta’s character in this chapter. And I have to say that she really grew on me since A Court of Silver Flames. She seems like she is going to play a vital role in the next ACOTAR books and “House of Flame and Shadow,” and this bonus scene foreshadows that.

Besides this, I couldn’t help but notice Rhysand’s overall attitude towards the matter of the Mask and how he… overreacted? Maybe he really isn’t as good as everyone thinks? (And Nesta kind of agrees with this statement, so who knows what future awaits for Rhysand?)

Lidia and Ruhn Bonus Chapter ( Target )

Lidia and Ruhn are in an art museum that Bryce recommended to them. They’re looking for a painting to decorate their apartment.

Ruhn is on his day off, but he receives two emergency calls from Dec and Flynn. He is needed immediately.

Lidia and Ruhn go to the Five Roses, but one block away from the Night Garden, he discovers that he has been lured by Dec and Flynn into a surprise.

Lidia wanted to marry Ruhn, and with Bryce’s help and company, they prepared everything for them.

Of course, Ruhn says yes.

My Opinion

Rating: 8/10

I’m biased when it comes to Ruhn and Lidia. They’re my favorite couple from the series! Hence the high rating, despite this bonus scene being your typical marriage epilogue.

Bryce and Hunt Bonus Chapter ( B&N and Waterstones )

Bryce and Hunt visit Bryce’s parents and make decorations for a festival.

Hunt is scared of Ember because she is bossy around him. They try to find time alone to have sex, but with her parents there and the celebrations, things get complicated.
