I’m back with more Book Lists!!

Ā

And this one is one I’m very proud of.

Ā

Forget the typical Book List that says, “Hey, read this book, it’s like Iron Flame,” and they gather 50+ fantasy romances with no correlation whatsoever.

Ā

This List is curated with love, research and investigation hehe

Ā

Did you enjoy the ending of Iron Flame, the revelations, all the angst and tension to get there, the foreshadowing? Well, this selection of books features the same tension/plot twists.

Ā

If you’re searching for books like Iron Flame that capture almost the same cliffhanger, THESE ARE THE BOOKS.

Ā

Enjoy expanding your TBR ( To-be-read-List) even MORE with these titles :)))

Table of Contents

Love and loyalty run deeper than blood.Ā St. Vladimirā€™s Academy isnā€™t just any boarding schoolā€”itā€™s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. Theyā€™ve been on the run, but now theyā€™re being dragged back to St. Vladimirā€™sā€”the very place where theyā€™re most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academyā€™s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoiā€”the worldā€™s fiercest and most dangerous vampiresā€”make Lissa one of them forever.

Similarities with Iron Flame

ā€œRose Hathaway: “You see something you like?
Dimitri Belikov: “Get dressed.ā€

When I finished Iron Flame (and screamed… because THE ENDING, WOW!!), the first series that came to my mind was Vampire Academy.

Ā

Many of you would definitely agree with me that Xaden and Dimitri share a LOT of similarities.

If you’re craving for something 99% similar to the end of Iron Flame, this is the series for you.

Sixteen-year-old dock boy Will is on the run, pursued by the men who killed his mother. Then an old servant tells him of his destiny to fight beside the Stewards, who have sworn to protect humanity if the Dark King ever returns. Will is thrust into a world of magic, where he starts training for a vital role in the oncoming battle against the Dark.

As London is threatened and old enmities are awakened, Will must stand with the last heroes of the Light to prevent the fate that destroyed their world from returning to destroy his own.

Similarities with Iron Flame

ā€œThe truth was that she knew very little about his life […] She’s been the one who talked, telling him far more than he’d told her. For all that they’d fought side by side, she knew almost nothing about him.ā€

Here’s another nearly perfect match.

Ā

If you enjoy unreliable narrators, Dark Rise is a must-read. Trust me, you won’t see it coming.

Ā

Perfect for fans of BIG plot twists and epic cliffhangers (yes… just like Iron Flame :P).

This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart…

Similarities with Iron Flame

ā€œBut Maven is not Cal, no matter how much his father might want him to be. He isn’t a soldier, he won’t be a king, but he’s braver. And he’s willing to do what’s right.ā€

Similar to Dark Rise, Red Queen is a fantastic series with original world-building that continues to inspire fantasy romance authors today.

Ā

Now, onto what’s important for us: What are the similarities with Iron Flame?

Ā

It features an underdog as an heroine, two brothers competing for the love of one girl, and a significant plot revelation at the end of Book 1.

Ā

If you enjoy conflicted and damaged characters, as well as antiheroes, this series is for you.

In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isnā€™t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And itā€™s not just a game of win or loseā€¦itā€™s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.

Similarities with Iron Flame

ā€œThree dark queens
Are born in a glen,
Sweet little triplets
Will never be friends. Three dark sisters
All fair to be seen,
Two to devour
And one to be Queenā€

Three sisters, one crown. Each of them raised separately and with a unique magical ability. This series is full of angst, betrayals and a world where nothing is as it appears.

Ā

The first book ends with a cliffhanger the size of a mountain and a big revelation in tune with readers who crave strong emotions, just like the ending of Iron Flame.

An ancient, mercurial spirit is trapped inside Elspeth Spindle’s head – she calls him the Nightmare. He protects her. He keeps her secrets. But nothing comes for free, especially magic.

When Elspeth meets a mysterious highwayman on the forest road, she is thrust into a world of shadow and deception. Together, they embark on a dangerous quest to cure the town of Blunder from the dark magic infecting it. As the stakes heighten and their undeniable attraction intensifies, Elspeth is forced to face her darkest secret yet: the Nightmare is slowly, darkly, taking over her mind. And she might not be able to stop him.

Similarities with Iron Flame

ā€œHe came for the girl… And got the monster instead.ā€

One Dark Window is a fantasy romance with an original concept. Picture having an “entity” in your head that continually talks to you, and you can’t seem to get rid of it.

Ā

Well, our heroine has to live with this creature inside her mind, and if she doesn’t hurry up, the creature will possess her body… forever.

Ā

With people communicating through their minds, plot twists, and a plethora of tree names (I learned quite a few tree names with this book, haha xd), One Dark Window is the perfect gothic romance if you’re seeking something dark and eerie after Iron Flame (just to continue with the vibes, haha).

Eighteen-year-old Iris dreams that one day her writing will make a difference. A war between gods is raging, and sheā€™s landed a prestigious job at theĀ Oath Gazette.

But at home, sheā€™s barely holding it together. Her brother is missing on the frontline. Her mother is lost in a haze of addiction. And each night Iris pours her heart out in letters to her brother.

Letters that will never be answered. Or so she thinksā€¦

Theyā€™ve made their way into the hands of the last person Iris trusts: Roman Kitt. Her cold, unforgiving rival at the paper.

Similarities with Iron Flame

ā€œBut just in case you were wonderingĀ ā€¦ Iā€™ll gladly read whatever you write.ā€

Well, well… the crown jewel, the book that left everyone in 2023 with a MASSIVE book hangover, eagerly anticipating the sequel. Divine Rivals secured its spot on this Book List not just for those reasons (which are pretty valid as well) but also due to the similarities in character development with Iron Flame.

Ā

If you’re craving for a canonical event at the end of the book like in Iron Flame, you should know that Divine Rivals delivers.

Thank me later šŸ™‚

he adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

But winning wonā€™t be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her fatherā€™s crownā€¦and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But thereā€™s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home.

In a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love, Raihn may understand her more than anyone, but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall.

Similarities with Iron Flame

ā€œDonā€™t fucking touch her,ā€

Carissa Broadbent is among my preferred spicy fantasy romance authors, and this book features one of my favorite fantasy creatures: vampires!

Ā

I have a soft spot for these nocturnal beings, and in The Serpent and The Wings of Night, we experience that adorable tension that vampire books bring to the table, mixed with The Hunger Games.

Reluctant allies, forced proximity… this book has lots of similar tropes as seen in Iron Flame and Fourth Wing.

Ā

The conclusion of Book 1… those kinds of cliffhangers should be forbidden, haha. Absolutely worth the read if you’re in search of a book similar to Iron Flame with steamy scenes.

A Maiden…

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppyā€™s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods.Ā

A Duty…

And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need.Ā

Ā

Similarities with Iron Flame

ā€œYou’re an absolutely stunning, murderous little creature.ā€

A total classic and a must-read for any fantasy romance reader!

From Blood and Ash is an epic fantasy romance with a rich lore and a romance plot central to the story.

Ā

It shares some reminiscences with Iron Flame and books like What Lies Beyond the Veil. However, what sets Jennifer L. Armentrout’s fantasy romance apart are the over-the-top steamy scenes and flirting.

Ā

I just love how she writes spicy scenes. If you loved the Throne scene in Iron Flame, definitely check out this book and her other series, A Shadow in the Ember; you will love both!!

My Top picks: Books like Iron Flame

These are my top two choices for books like Iron Flame.

Ā

I primarily considered their similarity to Iron Flame concerning “certain events” (read my full Iron Flame summary if you haven’t read the book to know what I mean :))

Ā

And the two winners are Dark Rise and Vampire Academy. Divine Rivals is a close third, by the way šŸ˜‰
