What to read After A Curse for True Love

Evangeline’s and Jack’s story has come to an end. After three wonderful books, the trilogy reached its conclusion with “A Curse for True Love.

Ā

It’s hard to believe it’s over. I fell in love with Evangeline and Jacks of the Hollow, the magical world Stephanie created and all their characters.

Ā

Now, it’s the perfect time to assemble a “recovery kit” filled with fantastic books similar to “A Curse for True Love.” Most of these are fairy tales with magical elements, featuring princes, enemies-to-lovers, and fantastic writing.

Ā

I’ve also included books that Stephanie herself recommended on her Instagram account.

For more happily ever afters, charming princes, and whimsical worlds.

Books like A Curse For True Love

Ready for your Evajacks “recovery kit”? These are the books I wholeheartedly recommend reading after “A Curse for True Love.”

These books share one or more things in common with “A Curse for True Love” but are unique in their own ways. I’m 100% sure you will find a book similar to “A Curse for True Love” among these titles. šŸ˜Š

All sorcerers are evil.Ā  Raised as a foundling in one of Austermeerā€™s Great Libraries, Elisabeth has grown up among magical grimoires that whisper on shelves and rattle beneath iron chains. If provoked, they transform into grotesque monsters of ink and leather.

Ā

Then an act of sabotage releases the libraryā€™s most dangerous grimoire, and Elisabeth is implicated in the crime. With no one to turn to but her sworn enemy, the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, she finds herself entangled in a centuries-old conspiracy.Ā

Ā

As her alliance with Nathaniel grows stronger, Elisabeth starts to question everything sheā€™s been taught.

For Elisabeth has a power she has never guessed, and a future she could never have imagined.

Why you should read it

ā€œAre all librarians like you, or is it only the feral ones who have been raised by booklice?ā€

Looking for a cozy, magical fantasy romance featuring BOOKS? Sorcery of Thorns is the right choice.

Ā

This standalone fantasy romance features a magical academia setting with a -sort of- librarian and a powerful sorcerer.

Ā

Nathaniel Thorn is our love interest, sarcastic and flirty at times. He steals the book together with his demon companion, Silas (who is the total opposite in terms of personality xD).

Ā

A light fantasy romance you’ll adore, and it will surely make you forget (for a while) about A Curse for True Love while enjoying a magical story with lovable characters.

Emi knows thatĀ yokaiā€”earth spiritsā€”want nothing more than to destroy her, but when she saves a fox shapeshifterā€™s life, she discovers the lies that have sealed her fate in stone.

Ā

Shiro isn’t the harmless fox spirit she thought he was. He’s mysterious, cunning, unpredictable … and now hers to command. He’s sworn to pay his debt to her, but he doesn’t know who she is. If he finds out, he’ll kill her.

Why you should read it

Well, well… Annette Marie certainly knows how to strike a chord with this stunning art. I’m a manga/manhwa reader, so this official art is all the motivation I require to dive into a fantasy romance.

The author really knows her target audience xD

Ā

I have no words… I will let the images and descriptions speak for themselves… (insert the ‘shut up and take my money’ meme here xDD)

books similar to a curse for true love
Destined to become a goddessā€™s human host, Emi has always followed the strict rules of her upbringingā€”until the day she meets Shiro.
A trickster fox in more ways than one, Shiro has sworn to pay his debt to Emi, but his hidden past is a beacon for even greater danger.
Yumei, a notorious raven shifter known as the Tengu, has no love for humansā€”or irritating foxesā€”and conceals motivations of his own.

A duke has been murdered. The lord of Thorn Grove has been framed. And Fate, the elusive brother of Death, has taken up residence in a sumptuous palace nearby. He’s hell-bent on revenge after Death took the life of the woman he loved many years ago…and now heā€™s determined to have Signa for himself, no matter the cost.

Why you should read it

ā€œYou may have reign over the dead and dying, but letā€™s not forget that itā€™s my hand that controls the fates of the living. For as long as she breathes, this one is mine.ā€

The second book in the trilogy, ‘Foxglove, introduces an intriguing new character to the main story: the enigmatic Fate, Death’s brother (who was briefly mentioned in Belladonna).

Ā

He plays an antagonist role in Foxglove, and I instantly loved his personality. He reminds me of Jacks in some ways, and the author explicitly mentioned in an interviewĀ  that he was loosely inspired by Klaus from ‘The Vampire Diaries.’

Ā

Foxglove also introduces a new point of view (POV), so now the story is told from Signa and Blithe (Signa’s cousin) perspectives.

Ā

Foxglove shares many similarities with A Curse for True Love. There’s a love triangle, a morally grey character similar to Jacks, and the overall vibe is gothic, magical, with a Victorian touch. Highly recommended!”

Violet is a prophet and a liar, Ā influencing the court as Seer with her cleverly phrasedā€”and not always trueā€”divinations.

After the king asks her to falsely prophesy Prince Cyrus’s love story for an upcoming ball, Violet awakens a dreaded curse about the prince’s future bride. Her wits may protect her in the cutthroat court, but they can’t protect her against fateā€”nor the doomed attraction growing between her and the prince….

Why you should read it

ā€œDonā€™t look at me like that.ā€
ā€œLike what?ā€
ā€œLike I matter to you.ā€

A Curse for True Love meets The Cruel Prince in this magical fairy tale with roles reversed.

Ā

Violet is our morally grey character, cunning and always planning, but she cannot avoid being attracted to the person she hates the most: Prince Cyrus.

Ā

Our Prince is a little bit like Cardan from The Cruel Prince, along with a few traits from Jacks

He flirts with every girl in Court, loves to tease Violet, and thinks a little too much of himself.

Ā

Despite this, he has a soft spot for our heroine. If you love the he falls first trope, REAL enemies to lovers (I hate to love you trope), you should definitely give this duology a try!

In the Wilds of Kandala, apothecary apprentice Tessa Cade has been watching people suffer for too long. A mysterious sickness is ravaging the land and the cure, Moonflower Elixir, is only available for the wealthy.

Ā

In the palace of Kandala, Prince Corrick serves as the King’s Justice, meting out vicious punishments and striking fear into the hearts of agitators and outlaws.

Ā

But when an act of unspeakable cruelty brings the royal and the outlaw face to face, the natural enemies are faced with an impossible choice–and a surprising spark. Will they follow their instincts to destroy each other? Or will they save the kingdom together . . . and let that spark ignite?

Ā

Ā

Why you should read it

ā€œKindness leaves you vulnerable, Tessa. I learned that lesson years ago.ā€

Defy the Night is the new fantasy romance from the author of ‘A Curse so Dark and Lonely.’

Ā

I’m a little biased when it comes to this author. I just love her writing and how she builds her fantasy worlds.

This book is great as a recovery kit after reading ‘A Curse for True Love.’

It has princes, forbidden romance, political intrigues, and wonderful writing. Totally recommended

All Talasyn has ever known is the Hurricane Wars. Growing up as an orphan, she found her family among the soldiers who fight the Night Empire.

Ā

But she hides a secret: light magic courses through her veins, a blazing power capable of being the greatest threat to the enemy.

Ā

Prince Alaric, the emperor’s only heir, confronts Talasyn on the battlefield. He tries to kill her, but in a clash of light and dark, their powers merge and create a force the likes of which has never been seen.

This war can only end with them. Talasyn and Alaric must decide… are they fated to join hands, or destroy each other?

Why you should read it

In the mood for an epic fantasy romance with strong Reylo vibes after finishing ‘A Curse for True Love’? Then Hurricane Wars is the perfect series for you.

Ā

This enemies-to-lovers fantasy excels in worldbuilding. There’s a lot of information at the beginning of the story, but I promise you that if you keep going, the relationship between Talasyn and Alaric is chef’s kiss.

ā€œDo you make it a habit to compliment everyone who’s trying to kill you?”

“Not everyone.” His eyes flashed with a hint of amusement. “Just you.ā€

He is the Prince from the Empire, she is a common orphan girl who wields the power to destroy the Evil Emperor. Calling all my royal fantasy romance girls and Kylo Ren fans out there!! This book is for you šŸ™‚

Why you should read it

ā€œSometimes things must break before they can be made whole again, so that they can be forged into something stronger.ā€

Dreams Lie Beneath is a standalone fantasy with exquisite storytelling, offering a captivating fairytale with romance and masterful world-building.

Ā

Rebecca Ross is one of my favorite authors, and her style is surprisingly similar to Stephanie Garber, the author of A Curse for True Love. Both authors craft YA fantasies that never feel dull, featuring unexpected plot twists, cliffhangers that leave you breathless, and compelling characters.

Ā

Dreams Lie Beneath checks all the boxes: it’s full of plot twists you won’t see coming, an original magic system, and a broody love interest with a soft side for the heroine.

Ā

If you lovedĀ  Sorcery of Thorns and A Curse for True Love, you will undoubtedly enjoy this book as well.

Books like A Curse for True Love recommended by Stephanie Garber

Right before the release of A Curse for True Love, Stephanie Garber shared a story where she recommended some books to read.

Ā

What could be more fitting than taking the advice of the author who crafted “A Curse for True Love”?

These are all magical stories very similar to Eva and Jack’s story, and it’s no wonder she selected these titles as recommendations

Growing up on the moon, Xingyin is accustomed to solitude, unaware that she is being hidden from the feared Celestial Emperor who exiled her mother for stealing his elixir of immortality.Ā

Ā

Disguising her identity she makes her way to the Celestial Kingdom, she seizes an opportunity to learn alongside the emperorā€™s son, mastering archery and magic, even as passion flames between her and the prince.

Ā

To save her mother, Xingyin embarks on a perilous quest, confronting legendary creatures and vicious enemies. She must challenge the ruthless Celestial Emperor for her dreamā€”striking a dangerous bargain in which she is torn between losing all she loves or plunging the realm into chaos.

Why you should read it

Daughter of the Moon Goddess is a beautifully written novel that draws inspiration from the Chinese myth of Chang’e.

Ā

If you’re a fan of Netflix’s Chinese romantic fantasies, rich in mythology, legendary creatures, and angsty romance, this book is a must-read.

Ā

Calling all love triangle fans… I know you are out there… because, like in Curse for True Love, Daughter of the Moon Goddess features two love interests… so be prepared for an angsty romance tale!

To all the world, Alizeh is a disposable servant, not the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom forced to hide in plain sight.

The crown prince, Kamran, has heard the prophecies foretelling the death of his king. But he could never have imagined that the servant girl with the strange eyes, the girl he canā€™t put out of his mind, would one day soon uproot his kingdomā€”and the world.

Why you should read it

ā€œWhat is your name?ā€
ā€œ Why do you need to know my name?ā€
ā€œSo that I may hate you more informally.ā€
ā€œAh. Well, in that case, you may call me Cyrus.ā€

This Woven Kingdom shares a lot of similarities with A Curse for True Love.

Both have a magical setting, princes in love with common girls, and morally grey characters.

Ā

Just like in A Curse for True Love with Apollo and Jacks, This Woven Kingdom’ also features two love interests.

Ā

However, you will have to wait a little for the second love interest to appear. But I can assure you, he is definitely worth the wait!!

Twin sisters separated at birth and raised into entirely different worlds are about to get to know each otherā€™s lives a whole lot betterā€¦

Ā

Wren Greenrock has always known that one day she would steal her sisterā€™s place in the palace. Trained from birth to avenge her parentsā€™ murder and usurp the princess, she will do anything to rise to power and protect the community of witches she loves.

Ā

Princess Rose Valhart knows that with power comes responsibility including marriage into a brutal kingdom. Life outside the palace walls is a place to be feared and she is soon to discover that itā€™s wilder than she ever imagined.

Ā

Why you should read it

Twin Crowns is a super fun read featuring two sisters separated at birth. One is a princess (Rose), and the other (Wren) was trained to steal her sister’s throne.

Ā

Twin Crowns has enemies-to-lovers, witches, forced proximity, and a GORGEOUS cover.

What’s not to like?

Ā

With a similar YA vibe to ‘A Curse for True Love’ and a dual POV like in Caraval (Stephanie Garber’s first series), you can’t go wrong with this book

Seventeen-year-old Jo Kuan is leading a double life. By day, she works as a lady’s maid for the cruel daughter of one of the wealthiest men in Atlanta.

By night, she’s the voice behind the most radical advice column in 1890s Atlanta.

Ā

And strong opinions of her own that she begins to share in a newspaper advice column under the pseudonym ‘Miss Sweetie’. Suddenly, all of Atlanta is talking about her ideas, although little do they know that the witty advice comes from a penniless Chinese girl.

Why you should read it

Set in 1890 Atlanta, a Chinese girl named Jo Kuan upsets society with her radical ideas in a gossip column.

Ā

If you have watched ‘Bridgerton’ or read the novels by Julia Quinn, you will find a strong resemblance with ‘Lady Whistledown’ character. She’s the anonymous writer of a social pamphlet who writes juicy gossip about the nobility.

Ā

In The Downstairs Girl, Jo Kuan goes by the name ‘Miss Sweetie’ and she acquires notorious fame by stirring the feathers of high society with her column about race and gender..Ā

The Downstairs Girl is a delightful YA novel with Asian representation and a badass journalist. Perfect for readers who enjoy historical fiction.

Abbie Keller had her heart broken by her ex-boyfriend, Richard Bartholemew Benson the Third, who coincidentally works at the same law firm as she does. Richard left her, claiming she ‘wasn’t serious enough’ for him.

Ā

So, she does what every person does when they’ve been through a breakup: she calls her friends, gets drunk, and devises her plan for revenge.

Ā

Abbie begins dating Damien Martinez, the founding partner of Richard’s law firm, with one goal in mind: persuading him to invite her as his date to the grand annual Christmas party.

Why you should read it

Are you in the mood for good Christmas feel-good rom-com? ( with steamy scenes should I add hehe ) If so, you should definitely give Tis the Season for Revenge a try!

Ā

This Christmas romance book is fast-paced, steamy, and features a lovely Latino love interest who is wealthy, with a 14-year age difference He even affectionately calls her ‘RUBIA,’ which translates to ‘blonde’ in English! OMG **dies**

Ā

In my opinion, this is the ultimate holiday age-gap romance.

Final thoughts: Books similar to A Curse for True Love

This sums up my list or “Recovery Kit” with books similar to A Curse for True Love.

Ā

I hope the books in this list help you recover from the agony of knowing that our favorite fairy tale is over.

Ā

My top picks in this list, or at least the books that helped me forget about A Curse for True Love, were “Defy the Night” and “Violet Made of Thorns.”

Ā

Defy the Night,” though a favorite of mine, can be a little slow at times, but for me, the perfect love interest and world-building totally compensate for this.

Ā

“Violet Made of Thorns” is a magical fairy tale, and the writing feels very similar to A Curse for True Love, but with a morally grey heroine instead of Evangeline’s “damsel in distress” style.
